The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana is a central government initiative to offer affordable housing to the economically backward section of individuals residing in urban and rural areas.

Introduced in 2015, the PMAY scheme aims to provide ‘Housing for all’ by the end of 2022. As per this mission, the government offers a Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme to provide subsidies on interest rates of loans taken to construct, purchase, or improve a house. This scheme is meant for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS), Lower Income Group, and Middle-Income Group.

Individuals eligible for this scheme can enrol themselves online. Individuals can go through the following steps to check whether their names have been added to the PMAY list of beneficiaries.

Steps to check PMAY list for 2020–21

The government releases two separate lists of beneficiaries for urban and rural areas. If an individual has registered for the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin (PMAY-G), they can check their names through the following steps:

  • Go to the official portal of PMAY-G
  • Click on the ‘Stakeholders’ option from the menu
  • Now, tap on the ‘IAY/PMAYG Beneficiary’ option

One can check his/her name on this PMAY list in two different ways:

Without registration number

Individuals with no registration number have to select the ‘Advanced Search’ option. After that, they need to provide information regarding the state, district, panchayat, block, etc. Now, beneficiaries have to provide their:

  • Name
  • Sanction order
  • Father/ Husband’s name
  • BPL card number along with the account number

After entering those details, click on the ‘Search’ option to find your name on the PMAY list. If you find your name on the list, you would be eligible to get a home loan at subsidised interest rates.

Individuals with a registration number have to enter the number and click on the ‘Submit’ option. All the details pertaining to the concerned beneficiary will come up on the screen.

Steps to check the PMAY Urban list 2020–21

Follow these steps to check whether you have made it to the list of PMAY Urban:

  1. Visit the official portal of PMAY Urban.
  2. Now, click on the ‘Search Beneficiary’ option and then select the ‘Search by Name’ option from the drop-down menu.
  3. Provide the first few characters of your name and then tap on the ‘Show’ option.
  4. Check the list to find your name.

Who are eligible for the PMAY subsidy?

The subsidy on the interest rates will depend on the income group to which a beneficiary belongs. An individual should meet the following criteria to avail of the benefits of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana:

  • PMAY beneficiaries must not possess a pucca house in their name or in the name of any of their family members in any part of the country.
  • For PMAY eligibility, an individual should not have availed any other assistance under a different housing scheme from the central or their respective state government.
  • Beneficiaries belonging to different income groups must meet the annual household income criteria as stated under the scheme. For EWS, the yearly income shouldn’t be more than Rs.3 lakh. While for LIG and MIG, the annual income should be between Rs.3 and 6 lakh and Rs.6 and 18 lakh, respectively.

However, before applying for a loan under the PMAY scheme, you can check the pre-approved offers provided by several financial institutions. One can avail of these offers on various financial products such as home loans, loans against property, and much more. To check the pre-approved offer, individuals need to provide their names and basic contact details.
